The Confucius Institute at California State University, Long Beach, USA
As the 101st Confucius Institute established by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in the United States, the Confucius Institute at CSULB was jointly founded by California State University, Long Beach(USA)and Hebei Institute of Foreign Languages (now known as Hebei Institute of International Business and Economics), China.
In December 2014, the Confucius Institute at CSULB held the opening ceremony. In November 2015, the first Chinese Side Director Li Xiangmin and government-sponsored teachers Xue Yang and Man Changjun went to their posts, and the current Chinese Side Director Wang Haitao started to hold office in October 2017.
The Confucius Institute of CSULB now has seven teaching places in Los Angles, including the College of Professional and International Educations of CSULB, College of Business of CSULB, OLLI University of the Third Age, Sato High School, Castaic Elementary School, Plum Canyon Elementary School and St. Andrew Catholic School.
Adhering to the aim of Confucius Institute and combining the actual situation of Los Angeles and CSULB, the Confucius Institute (CI) has been actively committed to Chinese teaching and the promotion of Chinese culture for three years. As of 2018, the institute has developed seven courses with 1,697 students. A total of 27,350 people participated in the cultural activities such as Confucius Institute Day, cultural lectures, cultural experiences and artistic performances. Students recommended and trained by the CI won the second prize in the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Qualifying Competition for Foreign College Students in the Southwest US for two consecutive years. In addition, for two years in a row, the CI has organized 43 Chinese Bridge middle school students to go to China for summer camp. Through the unremitting efforts of the previous and current teams, the CI has continuously extended its influence in the local area, and all the work is progressing well.
